Fonts ship as WOFF2 subsets fetched by need, Iosevka included
A visitor without STIX Two or Iosevka fetched 292 KB per STIX face and saw the system monospace. Now each face is a Latin core of 15 to 26 KB and an extension for Greek, Cyrillic and symbols that loads only for a page using them, so a prose page fetches about 40 KB of font. Installed fonts still win and fetch nothing. make fonts cuts the files from pinned upstream releases and writes assets/fonts.css.
