make deb builds a binary package that depends on pandoc 2.15, the first release with --sandbox, and make install-deb installs it through apt, replacing any earlier build. The package grants mdserve cap_net_bind_service, and mdserve reads its own capabilities to default to port 80, where URLs carry no port. Without the capability, as after make install, the port stays 8080. mdserve runs as the user either way.
mdserve is under the MIT licence; the package's copyright file carries it with the OFL of the embedded STIX fonts.
The hosts file is now parsed into entries of address and names, which the host check reads. Code inside mdserve's messages keeps their size. The README says that other local users can reach a server on a shared machine and how to name the server in /etc/hosts.
